Boosting Biodiversity at Our Normanton Office

May 12, 2025 | case study, eco-friendly

Small spaces can make a big difference for people and for the planet. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, we are proud that employees at our Normanton site are working to boost local biodiversity.

The site is part of a B-Line – a nationally recognised network of ‘insect pathways’ designed to connect natural habitats across the UK. This initiative, led by conservation charity Buglife, helps support bees, butterflies and other pollinators by creating essential corridors of wildflower-rich land. With a natural waterway running behind our site, Normanton is ideally placed to contribute to this national ecological network.

What Have We Done So Far?

Our dedicated team of green-thumbed employees have volunteered their time and have taken meaningful steps to improve the biodiversity around the site. Together, we’ve been transforming the outdoor spaces to create a more inviting, sustainable environment not just for our colleagues, but for local wildlife too. So far, we have:

  • Planted pollinator-friendly plants
  • Built and installed bird feeders and bird boxes
  • Created planters filled with flowers and greenery

These activities have not only enhanced the site’s ecological value but have also been officially logged on Buglife’s interactive B-Lines map, marking our contribution to this nationwide network of nature highways.

Why It Matters?

This initiative isn’t just about supporting local biodiversity, we also recognise the power of green spaces to enhance wellbeing. By improving our natural surroundings, we’re creating a workplace that supports wildlife but also promotes mental health, relaxation and a more enjoyable working environment.

What’s Next?

Following the success of our first phase, we’re excited to keep the momentum going. Here’s what we have planned next:

  • Restoring picnic benches for staff to enjoy the outdoors
  • Installing more bug and bee hotels
  • Adding hedgehog houses and feeders
  • Creating a wildflower garden
  • Building a small pond to support aquatic insects
  • Continuing to plant pollinator-friendly flowers
  • Adding further bird feeders and houses

We’re proud to see our Normanton office evolving into a thriving hub for nature and wellbeing. This project is just one of the many ways we’re bringing our CSR Charter to life by driving sustainability, supporting local ecosystems and creating meaningful change. To us, being a responsible business means looking beyond the workplace and contributing to a healthier future for both people and pollinators.
